This is such a late fashion show recap, but I am going to share a few things that I learned from JD Fashion Show (http://nyfw.com/jd-fashion-show) rather than just go ahead and get visual.
1. As the largest Chinese e-commerce company, this is not the first time that JD.com (http://www.jd.com/) hosted a global fashion show as a part of a global fashion week. Last fall, JD had participated in Milan Fashion Week. Their strategy is try to attract more international brands and products to sell on JD’s website. JD’s strategy is not new. Back in 2013, Amazon had been sponsoring Amazon India Fashion Week (http://www.amazonindiafashionweek.com/) until today. Similarly, Amazon’s goal was to change the way India shops fashion.
2. Besides JD’s primary goal, JD also has also gained a few other benefits. JD has definitely gained global media and press coverage, and earned more credibility (if a company has hosted fashion shows as a part of NYFW and MFW).
3. JD’s ambition is shared with all of those ambitious aspiring Chinese designers and models out there. Each season, more and more Chinese designers and models become visible.
4. The five designers who showcased their collections at JD Fashion Show will sell their new lines on JD.com. While JD, Alibaba, VIP.com and Tmall.com are changing the way China shops fashion, Chinese designers are offering more luxury options in fashion, too. One of L2 Think Tank‘s seven prediction for 2016 is that “APAC Brands chase western brands out of China”(L2’s 7 Predictions for 2016). I would certainly want to know more about it.
Special thanks to Cinka for taking over the photo editing and retouching work when we were running very late for this show recap due to image retouch challenges. Cinka is the founder of the popular Wechat public account BamnooTalk, I sometimes fall asleep with her features and posts.
Patience, Communication and Teamwork are key to this blog post. Hope you enjoyed our Fashion Week series, and see you next season.
