Wild West Village is the go-to Instagram account for many New Yorkers and visitors alike. However, the mystery man behind the account has remained somewhat of a secret….
Until now.
Tim Anderson is an ex-finance industry executive who turned his social media account and experience in promoting the Wild West Village brand into a full-time career. The Wild West Village Instagram account is currently at 11.9K followers and counting. Tim has also started his very own media agency, Sideworks Media, that specializes in social and new media as well as other PR/ marketing functions.
Originally hailing from The United Kingdom, Tim has a passion for different cultures. Before coming to The United States, he lived in Germany for a number of years. His favorite part about New York City? It’s unapologetic nature. “Europeans are more conscious about being polite. Here, people aren’t afraid to be bold.”
Finance was never this globetrotter’s calling. However, he never let that deter him from his dreams. Instead, he silently and steadily worked towards his goals.
Tim advises those who are feeling a little uninspired at work to, “use work to fund and support and kick-start doing what you love.” His secret is that he never let his passion distract him from his obligations, like supporting himself. Instead, he worked on both his day job and passion simultaneously until he had the stability to pursue his love for creativity, culture and storytelling.
Tim holds true to this principle for in his posts for Wild West Village. Wild West Village isn’t your standard lifestyle account. Wild draws followers in with by pairing rich and thought-provoking storytelling with photography that properly brings those stories to life. (All of the photos are Tim’s own—he is a self-taught photographer.) Posts are frequent enough to keep followers entertained and in the know, but spaced out enough to not overcrowd a person’s feed.
Wild West Village showcases the landscape and the richness that the West Village (and beyond) has to offer. The latest post highlights Palma NYC, calling the spot, “the restaurant and bar that becomes the door from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.” True to the account’s style, Tim steers from the cliche restaurant review to express a venue’s vibe in a deep, yet seriously approachable manner.
Tim’s extensive blogging and social media experience with Wild West Village led him to create Sideworks, his own media agency. At Sideworks, Tim uses his expertise to counsel clients on how to authentically brand themselves in a relatable way using vehicles like photography, social media strategy, creative copy and more.
Followers may see him making an appearance soon. Tim admits that he can only do so much personal branding outside of the spotlight. Keep a lookout for the man behind the screen in the near future.
