1. What do you do?

I am a sock designer for DML Marketing/Legale a privately owned company, that private labels a variety socks and hosiery for brands like Free People, Urban Outfitters, KOHLS and Target. It is my job to create exciting silhouettes, illustrations (do your socks have dots, flowers, dinosaurs, pizza or stripes? it was my job to draw these motifs on the computer), colorways or embellishment for the socks and work buyers to merchandiser these styles for the sales floor.

2. What does style mean to you?

Style: the manner in which a person presents their exterior adornment.  Everything is to be included: hair, makeup, nails, accessories, the cut and fit of the garments on the body or carried: The harmony between color, textiles, prints, hardware, and silhouette.  Style is the combined presence of all these elements as they relate to each other and the human body supporting them.

3. How do you define your personal style?

I would define my personal style as a predominantly black palette accented with accessories (rings and earrings). I have a fascination with texture, textiles and prints and the layering of these elements.

4. Has your personal style ever evolved? How do you feel when you look back at pictures of yourself?

Yes, my personal style has evolved. I feel curious about my past styles:I personally like my high school freshman style phase…Obsessed with these super wide burgundy pinstripe super low-rise bellbottoms I had made based of a pair of my mom’s flairs from the 70’s. I would layer belts I had made from soda tabs together and STACKS of bracelets/bright nail polish and wear vintage little boy tees.  In this time my style was some kind of cross between Shakira and Julia Styles via Save the Last Dance.

5. What is your style most inspired by?

My inner #BadBitch

6. How does NYC influence your personal style?

NYC influences my style every day.  The ever present street wear influence is something I love-Bright, Loud, Graphic Prints paired with sneakers- omg.  I love the shoes here.  NYC is so busy with so many interactions that Style plays a huge non-verbal communication of who you are- what you are up to- Oh I see you in your pencil skirt and pumps-headed to work.  It is these visual interactions that influence me to wear the funky accessories/prints fearlessly.  Being an Individual in NYC is accepted, encouraged and understood by majority.  I am thankful for this. A bit of entertainment just walking down the street or on the train.

7. Why do you choose Artists & Fleas as today’s style spot?

I chose A&F as today’s style spot because I value the one-on-one interaction between the artist and the audience. Opening the door to Artists and Fleas is like realizing I am on the cusp of an adventure- treasure awaits, and it’s our duty to find it.  Seeing and hearing the artists pride in their work and the story behind each piece adds a level of value-ones purchase will be valued.  That is something that is often completely lost in commercial settings- being a designer and artist myself I can relate to the similarities of the creative process.  I value that these artists have found a venue to share their creations as a collective to the public.

8. Do you think style can be taught?

Yes, style can be taught-it is also something that is to be acquired.

9. How do you look at the crossways of art and style?

A strong understanding and curation of style is a form of art in itself.

10. How would you define my style?

Sophisticated|Minimalist with Lux accents.
